A critter best left alone



Aye, that would teach him that Flashy’s a critter best left alone because as Thomas hughes pointed out, he can find ways of striking home that you ain’t even thought of.

Thoughts of home



It’s a strange thing, to come through hundreds of miles of wilderness, from a foreign land and moving in the wrong direction, and suddenly find yourself sniffing the air and thinking, ‘home’. If you’re British, and have soldiered in India, you’ll understand what I mean.

Flashy got beastly drunk


I learned in later years that the only safe place to get drunk is among friends in your own home, but that evening I made a thorough pig of myself, and the long and short of it was that ‘Flashy got beastly drunk’, to quote my old friend Tom Hughes.
