Flashman and the dearth of Socrates




I dare say if Socrates had been up the Batang Lupar that night he might have put my thoughts in order – not that he’d have had much chance; he’d have had a Colt thrust into his fist and been pushed over the side with instructions to lay on like fury, look out for a blond female in distress, and give me a shout when the coast was clear.
